Boil Water Advisory Expanded in Franklin Springs

The City of Franklin Springs has extended its boil water advisory for more neighborhoods.

On Monday afternoon, the city issued a boil water advisory for most of the town with the exception of
Hillcrest Loop, Greenbranch Rd and Dovetown which have not had a water shutoff.

City mayor Lee Moore says the expansion of the boil water notice is due to a water main break that happened Monday while crews were working in the Rolling Hills neighborhood.

“We had one water leak close to the dorms in behind Life Springs,” Moore said Monday. “What we had a valve that did not shut off the water line as we anticipated on the project at Rolling Hills. So, we had to shut the line off further back into the city and that affected more customers.”

Work began Monday morning in Rolling Hills area to remove a water line connected to the last of three city water towers.  The city plans to remove the tower eventually to make way for a new multi-family apartment complex.  Moore said the boil water advisory will extend through today.

“Because we had to cut the water off and it had to sit for a period of time is the reason we expanded the boil water advisory,” he said. “We have to follow the proper protocol. We have to get the tests run and as soon as the EPD says we’re clear we can lift the boil water notice.”

A boil water advisory means residents are asked to boil their water for cooking, drinking and preparing baby food until further notice.

Such notices are typically issued whenever work on a municipal water line is done because of sediment that gets stirred up in the line when work is going on.

The City will advise when the boil water advisory is lifted and when they do, we will let you know as well.
