Boil Water Advisory Set for Monday in Franklin Springs

People living in Franklin Springs are advised to boil their water for a time next Monday.

The city will be working on the water system Monday and will be shutting off water service beginning at around 8a.

Franklin Springs mayor Lee Moore says city workers will be taking down the last of three water towers in the Rolling Hills area.

“We’re cutting the line to the water line to hopefully get it off-line,” Moore said. “We’ve been working on this for the last three or four months. So the water will be turned off for a few hours Monday and we’re asking people to boil their water as a precautionary measure once the water is turned back on.”

Before the water tower can come down though, the line to the tower must first be removed.  This is the last of three water towers the town is removing.  Franklin Springs now buys its water from Franklin County and the City of Royston and the towers are no longer needed.

Moore said the removal of the tower and the water line will make way for a new multi-family apartment complex.  But when that tower comes down depends on the work crews will be doing Monday.

“It depends on what the pressure does when the line is offline,” he said. “We’ll monitor the water for several days before our engineers make a determination about the future of the water tower.”

Moore said the water in that neighborhood will be cut off for several hours on Monday.

Residents in that area should boil their water for cooking, drinking, and making baby food until the EPD determines the water is free of contaminants.
