Canon, Toccoa Celebrate Fall With Harvest Festivals

Two fall festivals going on this weekend in our area.

First in the City of Canon, the town will host its annual Harvest Festival Saturday beginning at 10a.  The Harvest festival will include lots of vendors as well as a day of non-stop entertainment. And something new this year is a corn hole contest beginning at noon in Canon City Park.

Contestants must register ahead of time by 11:30a Saturday.  Prizes will be awarded. $100 for first place, $50 for second.

The day’s event will end with an evening of entertainment beginning at 6p with the Dave Moss band and a Kung Fu demonstration at 7:30p

Then after dark, everyone is invited to watch the fireworks display at 9p.

And final preparations are underway for this year’s Toccoa Harvest Festival.  The 38th annual event takes place Saturday and Sunday in downtown Toccoa.

Main Street Toccoa Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says the festival will include more than 125 craft and food vendors.

“We will be having food vendors from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and so we are excited for that,” said Crosby. “I think that is always one of the favorites. Everybody is checking out the food. We also have great entertainment again this year. We have over 120 craft vendors. Every year, it seems like there is something new and different. They come up with new ideas. We have quite a few different vendors this year.”

There will be two stages of entertainment on both Saturday and Sunday on Doyle and Sage Sts.   And Crosby says there will be a lot of children’s activities.

“This year, we have the monster water balls and lots of kids like those,” said Crosby. “We have the bungee jump, Papa’s Little Choo Choo, inflatables, a mechanical bull, and little zippy pets.”
