Career Expo Today at North GA Tech Currahee Campus

Just a reminder the Career Expo and Job Fair takes place today on the campus of North Georgia Technical College.
Today’s Career Expo and Job fair takes place from noon until 3p.

Toccoa Career Center Manager Greg Pitts says the Department Of Labor is excited about this year’s event.

“It has turned into a really big event,” said Pitts. “Typically, we have anywhere from 50 to 70 employers there who are looking for people to fill positions they have open and we have a lot of job seekers.”

Over 50 employers from across North and Northeast Georgia are expected to be at the Career Expo today.

Some of those employers include: Autozone, Accord Services, CarryOnTrailer, Caterpillar, Daly’s Truck School, Davis Transfer, Cracker Barrell, Gwinnett County Police Department, Hart EMC, Kautex Textron, Safelink Wireless, Toyota Industries, Weaver Automotive, and the U.S. Navy.

But Pitts says the Job Fair and Career Expo will include more than just employers.

“The WIA people are going to be there,” said Pitts. “They are going to be doing some things there with their program, their on-the-job training program. They will have a workshop on that. They will also be helping some people with resumes on the day of. We are going to have the Veterans Administration Services mobile unit there, so veterans can come if they are having difficulty getting some of their services taken care of or just need general information.”

And as we told you earlier, those needing help with their resumes can get some free help from the Workforce Development Career Coach.

Workforce Development Trainer Micah Thomas says the coach will be there an hour early to help people polish their resumes.

“We assist individuals who may need help coming up with a resume, or who have one but need it critiqued,” he said.

The resume workshop on the Career Coach will take place at 11a in preparation for the Job Fair which begins at noon.  Thomas said the coach will then stay through the end of the job fair to help job seekers broaden their search.
