City of Lavonia to Get New Municipal Court Judge

Lavonia City Municipal Court will soon have a new judge.

Former Judge Frank George has retired effective last week.

Speaking to the Lavonia City Council and Mayor Ralph Owens at their work session Tuesday evening, Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle recommended the current juvenile court judge, Warren Caswell, be named as the new city judge.

“He’s accustomed to the way we do things in Municipal Court,” Carlisle told the Council. “He’s a very good attorney, for that matter. He gets along with our officers and they relate well with him. They are able to talk cases out with him and we’re able to run court very smoothly.”

Carlisle said Caswell was also recommended by Judge George to replace him.  Carlisle also recommended attorney Doug Kidd take over as the new juvenile court judge for the City of Lavonia.

If approved, Caswell will  have to undergo 20 hours of training this year.

The City Council took action Tuesday, but plan to vote on Chief Carlisle’s recommendation at their regular meeting on Monday.
