Clarkesville Campus of North GA Tech Evacuated After Bomb Scare

All is safe on the Clarkesville campus of North Georgia Technical College after the campus was put on lockdown for a time Thursday.

According to North Georgia Tech spokesperson Sandra Maughon, at around 11a Thursday, the school administration was made aware of a threat written on a wall in the Hoyt Coe building.

Maughon said campus police immediately evacuated the building.

“It turned out to be nothing,” Maughon said. “It turned out to be essentially graffiti, but we take everything very seriously. The campus police cleared the building and when everything was all clear we let the students back in.”

As to the nature of what was written on the wall, Maughon said she is not sure, but believes it was bomb threat. Maughon said the Habersham County Sheriff’s office brought in bomb detection equipment, but found nothing.

By mid-afternoon, the building was deemed safe after no explosive device was found.  Maughon said no one was injured.

According to Maughon, the Habersham County Sheriff’s office and campus police continue to investigate but no arrests have been made.
