Elbert County School Uniforms not a possibility next school year

In Elbert County, school uniforms, definitely not a possibility next school year, but it is still a topic being actively researched by the Elbert County Board of Education.

At last week’s Board of Education work session, Associate Superintendent Angela Moton gave an update on where the system stands on the matter and gave the board the results of a staff survey.

“ We have 83% of staff members indicating that they are in favor of uniforms.”

The survey was sent to staff across all levels of the Elbert County School System.

Moton said the survey wasn’t very long, and went over some of the questions that they asked.

“A survey that went out to staff members, was approximately 10 questions. We asked questions, do you feel that school uniforms would impact school safety, do you feel that this would be cost efficient, or cost prohibitive for parents, do you think that school uniforms would have an impact on behavior and discipline within the school. So those are a couple examples of question that were asked.”

Next step, said Moton, is to get a survey out to the parents.

She said parents would indicate which grade their child was in, and would be able to provide their input on the issue.

When exactly that survey will be sent out is unknown at this time.

What is known however, is that uniforms will not be anything to worry about in the upcoming 2015-2016 school year.
