A Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy has recently completed an important course that will help him better identify impaired drivers.

It’s called the No Refusal Progam.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said deputy Antwune McCurry recently completed the two-day seminar in Baltimore.

“Officer McCurry will now be able to build solid cases that can lead to impaired driving convictions,” Thomas said. “McCurry’s certification increases our department’s ability to catch, arrest and convict impaired drivers. The No Refusal program is a proven life saver and is successful around the country.”

Thomas said officer McCurry will be using this new training during the holidays’ Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over campaign along with all other local agencies.

The No Refusal program is an enforcement strategy that allows jurisdictions to obtain search warrants for blood samples from suspected impaired drivers who refuse breath tests.

Many jurisdictions allow officers to request warrants via phone from on-call judges or magistrates.
