Franklin County Employee Handbook Revisions Ready for Vote

Franklin County Commissioners are expected to pass the revised employee handbook when they meet for their regular meeting next Monday.

County staff in conjunction with help from the Georgia Mountains Regional Commission have been working for months to update and revise the handbook.

At their work session Tuesday evening, county clerk Elaine Evans said it is now ready for the board to approve.

“We’ve been working on it since October,” Evans said. “I’ve sent it out to department heads as well as Constitutional officers. I have had some feedback. John and I have worked on making sure that it is specific to our county and making sure it works for our employees. We’ve made the changes as recommended.”

Last summer, Evans told the board the employee handbook was seriously outdated.

At that time, Evans listed a number of federal laws that have changed since the handbook had been put together originally, such as the Family Leave and Military Leave changes.

Also the number of days an employee has to wait to get on county health insurance has gone down from 90 days to 60 days due to Obamacare.

Additionally, the number of hours considered for an employee to be considered part-time has gone down due to Obamacare from 32 hours to 30 hours.

After hearing from Evans, County Commission Chair Thomas Bridges asked the Board to review the revised handbook and be prepared to vote on it Monday.
