Franklin County G-DOT Worker Places in District Road-eo

A Franklin County G-DOT Maintenance Supervisor is a winner in several categories of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s annual Road-eo.

This year, Carnesville resident Jesse Thurmond place third in the BackHoe and  Motor Grader competitions. Thurmond is responsible for all maintenance operations on State Roads in Franklin County.

“This is the fourth year in a row that Jesse has placed in our annual Road-eo competition,” said G-DOT spokesperson Teri Pope. “The thing that is really so special is that Jesse is in a supervisory position over an entire crew. Yet, he can still handle all of the equipment expertly.”

There are six categories in the Road-eo competition.

In addition to Back Hoe and Motor Grader, G-DOT crews demonstrate their skills in Single Axle Dump Truck driving, Double Axle Dump Truck Driving, Tractor Mower driving, and Lowboy handling.

“The display of technical skills is amazing.  Maintenance Employees performed intricate maneuvers with each piece of equipment including parallel parking, driving forward and backward through an obstacle course while being timed. This is just another example of the expertise we have at work every day here at Georgia DOT. I am proud of our Maintenance Staff.  Their level of expertise is unparalleled even when working in dangerous conditions. Join with me to congratulate these outstanding employees,” said District Engineer, Bayne Smith.

Each of the seven Georgia DOT Districts held a District Road-eo. First and Second place finishers along with former State Roadeo Winners will compete in the State Truck Roadeo in May.
