A Franklin County man is finally behind bars after trying to skip out on a 20-year prison sentence for selling drugs.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas, 63-year old Toy Lee Fowler plead guilty in Franklin County Superior Court on March 23rd to two counts of felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Northern Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Thomas Hodges then sentenced Fowler to 20 years in prison with 10 to serve.

Fowler’s attorney asked the judge for time for his client to get his affairs in order before reporting to the Franklin County Detention Center to serve his sentence.

The Judge agreed and ordered Fowler to report on Wednesday, March 25 at 6p, but Sheriff Thomas said Fowler never showed.

A lookout was placed for Fowler and on Friday, Thomas said deputies found him hiding out in a motel in Toccoa.

Fowler was immediately taken to Jackson State Prison.  The Judge added another five years to Fowler’s sentence for escape.  He will be eligible for parole in 2025.
