Georgia DOT Awards $171 Million In Statewide Construction Contracts

The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced funding for a number of road projects in Franklin, Hart, Stephens and Elbert Counties.

According to G-DOT, 55 contracts for statewide construction and maintenance projects totaling over $171.3 million were awarded on July 1.

About $72.6 million of that will be used statewide to replace 25 bridges – awarded through a new bridge delivery process. The process, known as “bridge bundles,” used five design-build (DB) bundled contracts that group bridges geographically and allow the contractor to efficiently streamline delivery by combining design and construction for the bridges in their bundled contract.

“Design-build bridge bundles are an innovative way to replace Georgia’s aging local bridges while maximizing the state’s investment in a timely manner,” said Georgia DOT Commissioner Russell R. McMurry, P.E. “I am excited to make this investment in local communities. These bridges are critical for emergency vehicles, school buses and general freight movement.”

And $6.4 million of that will be used in Hart, Stephens and Elbert Counties for bridge replacement projects.

That contract was awarded to E.R. Snell, Inc of Snellville.

Over 21 percent of the total awards – about $36.8 million – will go towards 20 road resurfacing and maintenance projects across the state.

And safety improvement contracts totaling almost $15 million were also awarded.

These include over $9 million in guardrail replacements on state roadways and $3.5 million in signing and striping upgrades on local roads.

RMD Holdings Construction Group out of Chesterfield, Michigan was awarded two major contracts totaling over a million dollars to replace guardrails in Franklin and Hart Counties.

G-DOT will release information on schedules, lane closures and detours will be announced in advance of construction activities and we will bring that to you as it becomes available.
