Georgia Farmer Speaks to U.S. Agriculture Committee

Georgia farmers are being called to testify before the U.S. Senate Agriculture committee now that Sen. David Perdue is a member of that committee.

At Tuesday’s first Agriculture Committee hearing, Perdue introduced a Georgia farmer as one of the hearing witnesses.
Ronnie Lee is from Bronwood, Georgia in Sumpter County.

Lee is cattle produer, as well as a cotton, peanut, wheat, corn, soybean, and pecan producer.

In introducing Lee, Senator Perdue said it is important his committee hear from the family farmer regarding the implementation of the Agriculutural Act of 2014.

“As I travelled across Georgia last year, I met Mr. Lee and other family farmers who lead our agriculture community,” Perdue said. “We need to draw on their wealth of knowledge and their experience in the field. Their voice and insights are critical as we discuss the importance of the Farm Bill and other agriculture issues that impact them directly.”

Lee spoke to the committee about the impact of farm policy to the local farmer.

“We want to work with this committee to ensure the Farm Bill and the Federal Crop Insurance Act are maintained,” he said. “It is critical that the farm policy is designed and implemented to provide a sound foundation for the production of agriculture. While the goal of farm policy does not completely remove the risks of farming, policies should strive to provide opportunities for effect risk management.”

Lee told the Committee he appreciated the opportunity to provide comments to the Committee.
