Hart BOC Addresses Trash Problem at LongPoint Park

Hart County’s Board of Commissioners wants more to be done to keep its newly acquired parks clean.

At their regular meeting Tuesday evening, Commission chair Joey Dorsey asked that a plan be developed after Longpoint Park was left in a trashy mess over the July 4th holiday.

“One thing I’ve asked is let’s look at a plan for a holiday weekend, where we don’t have a situation where there’s trash all over,” Dorsey said.

Commissioner Frankie Teasley said he has been in contact with Whitworth State Prison to secure clean up crews for Longpoint and other parks.

“We should be getting a detail from there at least four or five days a week,” Teasley said. “Once he gets this detail back from training, we should see them out more visible and they can also help Jim out at the Rec Department.”

In April, Hart County Commissioners voted to take over Longpoint and Milltown parks from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Bot LongPoint and Milltown Park were scheduled for permanent closure by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers due to federal budget cuts.

While there are no immediate plans to develop Milltown, the County hopes to quickly develop Longpoint Park as another major point of interest for visitors.

The park was recently the scene of Hart County’s second annual Music Fest.
