Hart County Humane Society to Hold Fundraiser

The Hart County Humane Society is hoping to raise some big money this weekend to help injured and sick animals.

Volunteers will be on hand in downtown Hartwell today and tomorrow holding a big yard sale.

Humane Society president Donna Madkiff says the money will be used to pay vet bills over and above the usual treatments.“It’s to raise money for some medical care or our animals. It’s Friday and Saturday, this week November 18th and 19th at the old cheek to cheek building on the square next to the table restaurant and across from New York Pizza. The art sale is from 8:30 until 2 both days, “said Madkiff.

Madkiff said many of the animals they rescue were turned in to the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter injured or sick.

The animal shelter has no vet service and they are not equipped to pay for major veterinary care. “The fundraising helps out more with the extraordinary expenses. If the animal needs to have a limb amputated or if we just rescued a dog from Northeast Georgia they apply Hartwell for help. He is also having a bad issue with his ear. We’ve taken animals to UGA that caught something there hospital. So it’s extraordinary care that concerns us,” said Madkiff.

In addition to the yard sale, the Humane Society’s Community Outreach Center will also be open and there will be kittens and puppies available for adoption.

Now, if you would like to donate items to the yard sale you can contact the Humane Society at 706-436-6200.
