Hart County Passes FY16 Budget

Hart County has a new budget for Fiscal 2016.

Two days before the  bUstart of their new fiscal year on October 1, the Hart County Board of Commissioners voted to pass their FY2016 budget at a called session Tuesday evening.

The new budget calls for General Fund Budget of $10.6 million.

Before voting to pass the budget, a request was made by the Hart County Tax Assessor’s office for an amendment to provide them with an extra $3,000 for new software.

County EMS Director Terrell Partain said the extra funding is for the new server license.

Representatives from the Tax Assessor’s office told the board the Dept of Revenue has already prepared the computers in their office and the State is waiting for the go ahead from the County to upgrade to new software.

The board was told the upgrade must be done by the end of the year, but the current software will be supported through 2017.

But Commissioner Joey Dorsey objected to the request.

Dorsey said the request for the money should have been brought up earlier during budget talks.

“That’s why there’s a plan in place to put the budget in place so that we can plan and have a one-time bill to set the millage, and all these surprises throw everything out of whack.” he said. “I’m not voting for this tonight. This is ridiculous. We spent hours going over the budget, hours.”

After more discussion, the Board denied the $3,000 budget amendment request and voted unanimously to pass the FY2016 budget as is.
