Hartwell, Hart County Light the Christmas Tree on the Square

Hart County and the City of Hartwell celebrated the start of the holiday season last night with their annual Christmas tree lighting.

Sponsored by Hart County and the Hartwell Downtown Development Authority, this year’s theme is “Home for the Holidays.”  The tree is located on the County Government grounds on the square in downtown Hartwell.

Hart County provided a new tree this year after the tree used in past years had deteriorated.

Hart County commissioner Joey Dorsey attended the event on the square in downtown Hartwell.

Dorsey said there was a lot of fun activities for adults and children alike.

“The DDA did a good job coordinating this for the County,” Dorsey said. “We’ve got horse and buggy rides, food, and lots of kids who are sharing their Christmas wishes. It’s just a great event for the community.”

Dorsey said this year a special guest lit the Christmas tree – a 40 year a veteran of Hart County EMS.

“Mr. Robert Plammel who is a para-medic with Hart County EMS. He’s been with Hart County for 40 years and has provided emergency medical care and support to many Hart County citizens. He will be retiring and we felt like this would be a great honor for him as well.”

Another special guest was also on hand last night for the kids.

Santa Claus took time out from his busy schedule to come and meet with children so they could get their gift orders in on time.
