Heavy Rainfall Causing Area Power Outages, Downed Trees Throughout Area
As of 9:30a Hart EMC reporting over 4,000 outages in their coverage area this morning, that’s according to Hart EMC spokesman Keith Brown.
Brown said he has called for help from other EMC’s and he expects more crews to be coming in to work on restoring power.
According to Brown 17 of their 18 substations in the Hart EMC coverage area have been affected by the high winds and driving rain overnight.
Statewide, Georgia Power is reporting 9,174 customers throughout North Georgia without power due to the heavy rainfall. Most of the outages in our area are in Habersham and Hall counties.
Trees and power lines reported down throughout the area this morning. County road crews, along with power and telephone company crews are working to clear roads and restore power and phone service.
In Franklin County trees reported down along SR106 and Gumlog Road where a tree has fallen onto a power line and is on the road.
Also a vehicle struck a tree on Carrytown Road in Franklin County.
Poles were reported down on SR59 outside of Lavonia Saturday night – two poles were partially knocked down near 328 as a result of the heavy rainfall. Most of the southbound lane on 59 was blocked for a time, but is now re-opened, but debris and cut up tree trunks can be seen strewn about on the sides of the road,there and across Franklin County as road crews work feverishly to make roads passable.
In Lavonia, multiple falling trees pulled power lines down along Vickery St. near Arlington. Also poles down on Rainbow St. Georgia Power has been notified. As of mid-morning Sunday, crews were working to cut up the fallen trees and clear the road.
