In Madison County, fire broke out Monday morning at a home in the area of Laurel Avenue at Paoli Street in Comer.

Comer Police Chief Dennis Bell says the cause of the fire is still unknown.

“It was a total loss,” Bell said. “They lost everything they had inside the house. The fire chief is waiting for the insurance investigator to come look at it. We don’t think, however, there was any foul play, but we will have to wait for the investigator to come look at it.”

Bell said a mother and daughter who lived in the house were not home when the fire broke out and were not hurt.

And in Hart County, a couple will be working to rebuild after a fire destroyed their home over the weekend.

It happened early Friday evening off Shoal Creek Road.

Hart County Fire Chief Jerry Byrum said Hart County 911 received a call around 7:30p Friday regarding fire coming out of a house chimney.

Byrum said the fire took out the attic area of the home and the back walls.

This is the time of year when people typically like to burn fires in their fireplaces, but Byrum advises before you do that, make sure your fireplace and chimney are safe.

“Before you start burning in your fireplace you need to have it inspected by a certified chimney sweeper. It needs to be cleaned out once a year,” Byrum said.

The couple and their twin boys made it out of the home safely and there were no injuries.
