Lavonia Cannery Now Open for Food Processing

Most who have backyard gardens in our area are already harvesting their corn, beans, tomatoes and other garden goodies.

And if you are planning to pack any of those for your pantry, the Lavonia Cannery is now open to the public for food processing.

Operated in the back of the historic Lavonia Cannery, the Food Processing Center is operated by the Franklin High School Ag Department and funded by the Franklin County Board of Education.

The Center will be open Monday through Thursdays from 7:30a to Noon through August 6th, but closed for a teacher conference July 6th and the 9th.

Patrons may prepare and pack fruit, vegetables, and meats while agricultural teachers handle the processing. Additonally, people may also can soups, juices, sauces, and other specialty items they care to make.

There is also equipment for canning peaches and for canning in quart cans and glass jars.  Metal cans are furnished by the Food Processing Center.

Anyone needing more information can contact the High School Ag Department at 706-384-4525.
