Lavonia Completes Planned Road Projects

The City of Lavonia has completed a couple of road repair and repaving projects and is continuing to work on some others.

At their regular meeting Monday night, the Lavonia City Council heard from City Manager Charles Cawthon who gave them an update on some ongoing projects.

Cawthon said however, all of the street paving that had been planned is now complete.

“The paving for the year is done,” Cawthon said. “We’ve paved Brookwood, Owens Driver, the Ballfield lower road and the Cannery and Ag lower parking lot. We’ll also be sealing and striping the Community Center parking lot. We’ll also be re-striping that whole parking lot and making the parking spaces a little bigger.”

Cawthon said the City has also been working to correct some ponding and flooding issues on Myrtle St. to improve drainage there.

“We had a problem with water ponding on the upper end and with all the mosquito-borne illnesses we wanted to get that taken care of,” he said.

Other projects Cawthon said the City is working on include doing some exterior painting and touch up work on the Gazebo downtown and the train depot.
