Lavonia DDA Scheduling a Number of Events in May

The Lavonia Downtown Development Authority is keeping busy with lots of activities this spring.

Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Marie Morse gave a report to the Lavonia City Council Monday highlighting several activities coming up in Lavonia this spring.

May is “Historic preservation month,” according to Morse and she says the City will celebrate it with a “Day of History” on May 22nd.

“That will be a skit about the depot as well as the history of downtown Lavonia,” Morse said. “There will also be music and refreshments. That will start at 2p and go until 4p.”

Morse also pointed out the “Spring Festival” this weekend will kick off with a live concert downtown Friday night.

“We also have another music group, the Dixie Keys, will be in concert downtown at the Gazebo,” Morse said. “One of the former Franklin County High School directors, Donnie Brooks, is in that group. They do an awesome job of jazz music and more of a big band sound.”

Other events this month Morse said include participation in Georgia On My Mind at the Welcome Center.
