Lavonia Shelter Holds Rabies Clinic This Saturday

TogetherThere is a lot going on this weekend in Franklin and surrounding counties, but the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter is encouraging pet owners to take some time Saturday to make sure their pets are vaccinated against rabies.

The shelter holds two low-cost rabies and vaccine clinics each year and shelter director Sheri Lockhart says their fall rabies clinic is coming up Saturday.

“We will hold it Saturday, November 1, from 10a to 2p,” She said. “Rabies vaccines are $5 for a one-year, $10 for a three-year, but to get a three-year you must provide proof of a rabies vaccine last year. We’re also offering horse rabies vaccines for $15.”

During their spring rabies clinic, Lockhart said over 300 pet owners turned out to have their pets vaccinated and the shelter is hoping to have that many or more again this Saturday.

This has been another bad year for rabies cases in our area and Lockhart says making sure your pet is protected against this deadly disease is an important part of responsible pet ownership.

“It is a serious thing,” Lockhart said. “If your child is exposed to a dog or cat that has rabies, it’s a bad thing. So, spend the $5 and get your animals vaccinated and protect them and your family from rabies.”

The shelter will also be offering other vaccines at a discounted rate, including the parvo/distemper vaccine for dogs and the distemper vaccine for cats.

Both vaccines are $7 each.

Again, the fall rabies clinic at the Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter in Lavonia takes place from 10a to 2p Saturday.

You do not have to live in Franklin County to take advantage of the $5 rabies clinic.  The shelter is located on Bear Creek Road, off SR17 in Lavonia.   For more information, contact the shelter at 706-356-5363.
