Local Retailers To Take Part in Small Business Saturday

Local businesses in Lavonia and surrounding communities will have their doors open this weekend for Small Business Saturday.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is traditionally called Small Business Saturday and is a time when people are encouraged to do at least part of the their holiday shopping by hitting the locally owned retailers in their communities.

Local businesses and retailers in the City of Lavonia will be open this weekend and Lavonia Downtown Development Authority Executive Director Marie Morse says it’s a great time to see what the shops in town have to offer this holiday season.

“Small Business Saturday gives our local businesses a chance to have their special sales and special deals,” Morse said. “Stores will be open most of the day and it gives shoppers an opportunity to shop local.”

The push to encourage people to shop locally doesn’t start and end with Small Business Saturday in Lavonia.

The Lavonia Downtown Development Authority has campaigned all year to encourage businesses to be open during key times of the year when tourists and shoppers are more likely to come, such as holiday weekends and during the summer.

In Royston, DDA Executive Director Candy Rhoades said many local retailers will also be open on Saturday in support of Small Business Saturday.

“We invite everyone to come to Royston Saturday to check out the wonderful local stores we have here and to see what they have to offer,” Rhoades said.

Additionally, the Small Business Administration says you can show your support for your local retailer this holiday season by finding those businesses in your community that  are participating in Small Business Saturday.

You can do that by going online to  www.shopsmall.com.

The website provides information on businesses currently registered and how you can rally your community to support the initiative.

By shopping small, you can help America’s small businesses do what they do best: grow their businesses, create good jobs, and ensure that your community is vibrant.
