Lots of Halloween Events in Franklin, Hart Counties Tonight

If you are looking for some safe family fun this Halloween, look no further than Franklin and Hart Counties.

In Franklin County, the City of Lavonia will be hosting their third annual Halloween Carnival.

Downtown Development Authority Director Marie Morse says the fun takes place this evening from 4p to 6p.

“We’ll have a costume contest for infants through age 12, we will have a DJ you can dance with, inflatables, and new this year is Twister the Clown. He will be doing a Halloween Magic Show. Of course the event is free and parents are encouraged to come with their children.

Also, the Franklin County Community Players will be opening the doors this weekend to the haunted Whispering Hills Sanitarium.  It’s $10 to go through the haunted house.

Whispering Hills Sanitarium is open Friday and Saturday night from 7p to midnight and on Sunday evening from 7p to 10p.

Further down SR17 in Canon, children will be treated to a Halloween fest at Canon City Park from 6p to 8p.

There will be lots of candy, games and other family oriented activities to take part in.

And in Royston, local businesses will be handing out candy and goodies this afternoon, according to DDA Executive Director Candy Rhoades.

“Trick or treating is city wide from 3:30p to 5:30p,” Rhoades said. “Many of our local businesses will have orange bows on their doors. We expect between 900-1,000 children trick or treating in our downtown area.”

After the trick or treating, a local business, Pure Web, will be hosting a movie for the kids at their location on Bowersville St.

“We will provide hot dogs, popcorn, water and candy before the event,” she said. “There is no charge for the movie or for any of the refreshments. The movie starts at 7p. Be sure to bring chairs and blankets to sit on and bundle up because it will be chilly.”

At Victoria Bryant State Park in Franklin Springs,  the Haunted Hills Hayride takes place tonight and Saturday night from 8p to 10p.

Join the annual spooktacular haunted hayrides, which are fun for all ages. Come early because ticket sales close at 10 pm. They will also be showing a movie, have a bonfire and refreshments for sale. $5/person plus $5 parking. 706-245-6270.

And in Hartwell, kids and adults will want to dance and howl at the annual Monster Mash.  The fun begins at 4p on the downtown square in Hartwell.

You can come in costume or come as you are and enjoy downtown trick-or-treating, vendors and costume contests.  Also this evening, the winners of the month long Scarecrow contest will be announced.
