Murder-Suicide Investigation Ongoing

The investigation continues into the murder suicide two weeks ago that began at the Froh’s Restaurant in Hart County and left three people dead.

On Wednesday, Northern Judicial District Attorney Parks White confirmed agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continue to look into the case.

“The GBI has been conducting an investigation and continues to conduct and investigation involving the murder-suicide involving Mr. Chumley,” White said. “I have been in  contact with the investigator who is the lead in that case and he is keeping me updated as the investigation progresses.”

39-year old Lori Weaver was shot and killed early on the morning of April 13, by her ex-husband, 46-year old Sammy Chumley who then turned the gun on  himself.

It started hours earlier at Froh’s Restaurant on Rock Springs Road in Hart County where Weaver worked.  According to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland, the restaurant had closed for the night, when Chumley stormed in armed with a gun.

Witnesses told investigators Chumley first chased Froh’s owner Jason Forkin into an outside dining area where he shot and killed him.  He then forced Weaver at gunpoint into her car and drove away.

Hours later, Franklin and Hart County Sheriff’s deputies found the bodies of Weaver and Chumley inside Weaver’s SUV at the home where the couple once lived near Canon.

Since then, the GBI has continued to investigate, but so far, White says it appears Chumley may have acted alone.

“At this time I have not received evidence from him that would suggest there was any other person that was an aider or abetter,” he said. “If we receive any information that would suggest there was any other person involved, we will of course pursue them.”
