New Reed Creek Water Line in Service

More people in the Reed Creek Community of Hart County are tapping on to county water, now that a project to extend water lines in that area is completed.

At their meeting Monday, the Hart County Water and Sewer Authority board heard from director Pat Goran on the success of that project that ran a new water line the length of the detour route around the sinkhole on the Reed Creek Highway.

“That project is completely done. I went out on the 13th and shut off the two valves we installed on either side of the sinkhole,” Goran said. “So, that part of the county that was fed by the sinkhole that went across the sinkhole area is now being fed by the new line we put in.”

The new line serves customers Reed Creek, Piney Woods and New Prospect areas.   Goran says once the sinkhole is repaired, GDOT crews will also repair the 12-inch line that goes across the sinkhole.

Goran said since the new water line was put in new customers have asked for service.

“Actually, we’ve hooked on a total of six customers to the water line and we’re expecting a couple more in the next day or two. It was a great project to do,” he said.

Before the line was installed, letters were sent out to property and home owners offering them significant discounts on their tap fees.
