Nominations Sought for Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health

Time is running out to submit nominations for this year’s Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health.

The Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health is in its 12th year. It is named for Margaret Ayers, longtime civic activist, former first lady of Lavonia, and career banker.  

The award is presented each year to the Lavonia resident who demonstrates outstanding civic leadership.

Last year’s recipient was Lavonia City Councilman David Howell.

Howell was lauded for his work with many civic organizations, such as the Boys Scouts, the Lions Club and the Masons.

Nomination forms for the twelfth annual ‘Margaret Ayers Award for Civic Health’ are available at Lavonia Clinic, the Northeast Georgia Bank and the Lavonia Chamber of Commerce.

Criteria to be considered for the award include being a resident of Lavonia, the nominee’s civic leadership, exceptional character, an appreciation of history as well as one who brings credit to the city. 

Nominations are due by September 14, and the award will be presented in October.
