Oconee County, SC Woman Charged with Attempted Murder

In Oconee County, SC a West Union woman is behind bars charged with attempted murder.

38 year old April Dawn Townsend of Smarty Jones Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 5:25pm. Friday evening.

According to the Oconee County Sheriff’s office spokesman Jimmy Watt, deputies responded to an address on Cassidy Bridge Road around 3:45pm after receiving a report of a domestic situation.

Officers were met at the door by Townsend who told deputies that she had to release the demons and that she was the higher power,” Watt said. “Officers then observed a victim, a family member of Townsend’s, lying on the floor with plastic bags over her head and not responsive.”

A further check revealed that the victim was not breathing nor had a pulse. An officer began CPR on the victim and was able to get her breathing her again.outh

According to the arrest warrant, Townsend is accused of restraining the victim and placing several plastic bags around her head, restricting the victim’s airflow until the victim was unconscious, had quit breathing and had no heartbeat.

The victim was taken to Oconee Memorial Hospital and then later transferred to Greenville Memorial for further treatment.

Townsend was then placed under arrest for attempted murder. Evidence was collected as an investigator from the Criminal Investigations Division continued to work at the scene.

Townsend remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center.

No word on bond.
