Traffic is flowing once again on I-85 but that wasn’t the case Thursday evening.

A bad wreck involving an 18-wheeler on 85 Northbound just before the State line bridge had traffic backed up for miles.

Georgia State Patrol Hartwell Post Spokesman Corporal Matt Baxley said it happened about 6p Thursday.

“A tractor-trailer driven by Miguel Raydel of Miami, Florida was traveling north on I-85 near the state line when the vehicle blew a tire. It caused the driver to lose control and traveled off the shoulder of the road and became engulfed in flames. Mr. Raydel was transported to AnMed Hospital with minor injuries,” Baxley said.

Hart County’s EMA team and firefighters were on the scene within minutes working to put out the fire, which had spread into the woods where the wreck happened.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the blaze.

The truck and its contents were a total loss.

Meantime, traffic was at a standstill for hours in both lanes while crews worked to clear the wreckage.
