Perdue, Isakson Introduce Bill to DeFund Planned Parenthood

U.S. Senators Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and David Perdue (R-GA) along with 22 Senate Republicans, this week introduced legislation to defund Planned Parenthood.

SB 1881 comes in light of the video footage detailing Planned Parenthood’s role in the harvesting of the organs of unborn babies.

A group called, the Center for Medical Progress has released three videos which depict Planned Parenthood doctors discussing the sale of organs and other body parts of aborted babies.

Planned Parenthood officials say the videos were heavily edited and taken out of context and they deny profiting from the sale of fetal tissue.

However, Senator Isakson called those videos, “incredibly disturbing” and called for an immediate investigation into what he called Planned Parenthood’s, “abhorrent activities.”

Meantime, Senator Perdue called the videos, “gut wrenching” and he said they underscore the serious nature of the situation.

Perdue called the actions by Planned Parenthood, “unthinkable” and said they should not receive any federal funding.

On the House side, 9th District State Representative Doug Collins called the actions by Planned Parenthood, “truly sickening.”

Collins is a co-sponsor of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, and the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act.

In a prepared statement last week, he said there is now, “proof of activity that is not only unethical, but also illegal.”

Collins said Planned Parenthood should be defunded of all the taxpayer dollars it receives, and fully investigated for illegal activity.

The Senate expects to vote on the bill next week, but Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill don’t think Republicans will garner enough votes for it to pass.
