Prescribed Burns in Stephens, Habersham Today

A prescribed burn will take place starting later this morning in the Toccoa area.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, crews will be conducting the prescribed burn on about 1200 acres along the Davidson Creek area, in a stretch between the City Of Toccoa’s pumping station and Prather Bridge Road.

Portions of the burn will be in both Stephens County and Habersham County.

The burn is expected to start at about 10 a.m. and last through the early afternoon.

Forest Service officials said traffic will be affected along Black Mountain Road off of Highway 17 Alternate, as parts of Black Mountain Road will be closed from time to time as needed during the burn.

Also, the Forest Service said smoke will be very visible throughout the area due to the prescribed burn.
