Qualifying Ends for Franklin County Municipal Races

Qualifying is over in Franklin County for municipal races and there will be races.

Qualifying for City Council seats in Carnesville, Lavonia, Canon, Royston, and Franklin Springs got underway Monday and ended Wednesday with the close of business.

In Carnesville, two City Council seats and the mayor seat are up for grabs.

The two seats open are currently held by Gene Eavenson who has chosen not to run again and Sid Ginn.

As of 4p Wednesday, incumbent City Councilman Sid Ginn had qualified and citizens Chris Ayers, Scott Andrews and Patsy Watkins had also qualified for City Council seats.

Carnesville Mayor Harris Little qualified on Monday to run for re-election and is running unopposed.

In Canon, two City Council seats are open and a number of citizens have qualified there.

Seats are currently held by Bobby Locke and Charles Bradley. However, Bradley has chosen not to run for re-election. Those qualifying in Canon include, Wayne Sanders, incumbent Bobby Locke, Billy Crook, and Ricky Freeman Jr.

In Lavonia, three seats are open, two on the City Council and the Mayor seat now held by Mayor Ralph Owens.

Both the City Council Post 3 and Post 4 seats are up for grabs. Those seats are currently held by councilman Eddie Floyd Jr. and Harold Harbin respectively.

As of 4p Wednesday, both Floyd and Harbin had qualified as had Mayor Owens. However, Harbin will be challenged by local residents Rashad Knox and Wayne Ellard for the Post 4 seat.  Floyd and Mayor Owens are running unopposed.

Over in Royston, three City Council seats are open this election.

They include the seats currently held by Lee Strickland, Wayne Braswell and Keith Turman.  All three incumbents there have qualified as have local residents Paul Crawford and Tracy McLean.

And in Franklin Springs, two City Council seats are open.

The seats of Jim Ganey and Bill Bell are up for grabs. As of 4p Wednesday incumbent Bill Bell and local resident Tommy Pritchett had qualified. Jim Ganey did not qualify to run for re-election.
