Recount Approved in Republican Primary Run-off

vote7There will be a recount in the run-off results for the Republican candidacy in the State School Superintendent race.

Statewide, the Republican run off between Michael Buck and Richard Woods was a virtual dead heat with neither receiving the required 51% of the vote.  Buck received 49.91% to Woods’ 50.09%.

On Tuesday, Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp announced one of the candidates, Michael Buck, has requested a recount of all votes in the Republican Primary Runoff.

That means all Election Superintendents across the state will have to recount their votes.

Franklin County Elections Superintendent Gina Chappalear tells WLHR News she will hold a recount at noon today with the Franklin County Board of Elections.  Hart County’s Probate office will also conduct their recount at noon today.

Kemp said all recounted votes must be turned in to his office no later than noon Thursday.  All recounts in both Franklin and Hart counties are open to the public.
