Robert Franklin Jr to Ask for Reduced Sentence

The son of Franklin County Commissioner Robert Franklin is asking to have his prison sentence reduced.

Attorneys for 26-year old Robert Franklin Junior are expected to be in Franklin County Superior Court Wednesday petitioning for the reduced sentence.

Franklin is currently serving 10 years of a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty last June to multiple counts of child molestation involving a 13-year old girl.

Franklin Junior was indicted in September 2015 on two counts of child molestation, one count of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes.

According to the indictment, in February 2015, Franklin sent sexually explicit photos and videos of himself to the teen and then persuaded her to send him similar photos and videos of herself to him.

Then in March 2015, the indictment states Franklin sexually molested the girl at a church.

Franklin had been out on bond awaiting a court appearance, but in late May 2016 was taken back into custody after authorities say he had violated the terms of his bond, which stated he was to have no contact with children.

In early June, Franklin pled guilty to all charges.

On June 29th last year, Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Malcom sentenced Robert Franklin Jr to 20 years in prison with ten to serve and ten years on probation.
