Royston Whittles Applicants City Manager Job

The Royston City Council and Mayor David Jordan have narrowed the pool of applicants for the city manager position.

At a special called meeting last week, the council and mayor met in executive session to discuss the 19 applications submitted for the position.

According to Jordan, after much discussion, the council and mayor picked out 10 applications to pursue, but Jordan said those are by no means the finalists for the job.

“We’ve eliminated about half of them,” Jordan said. “So we are in the process of calling those and interviewing those.  We are probably going to pick the top five and interview those, but we don’t know if they’re going to be interested. We don’t even know if they’re going to be interested in the salary we’re going to offer.”

Royston has been without a city manager since last March when former manager Greg Scott resigned to take a job with the U.S. Air National Guard in Florida.

Jordan said last week, the city is looking for someone who understands small town government and would have the best interests of the citizens of Royston at heart.  And so far, Jordan says the process is far from over.

“We’ll take a few at a time and interview and see how things go,” he said. “We may actually open it up for more applications. There are a number of them that look promising, but we’re not going to make any decision until we talk to these folks. So, we’re not ready to make any decision at all.”

Jordan has said in the past the city is not in any hurry to find a new city manager since there are no major projects currently in the works.
