Royston to Upgrade Water Pumps

The City of Royston is investing in some upgrades to its current water system.

At their regular meeting Tuesday evening, City Manager Ed Andrews told the council two water pumps in the city’s water system either need replacing or repair.

First he said a high-Service Pump at Water Plant is deteriorating and must be replaced.  Andrews said the current pump has been in service since 1965.

So far, he said they have not been get any price on the cost of replacing it.  Another pump at the river is also in need of repair, according to Andrews.

That pump he said would cost between $5,000 to $10,000 to fix, but Andrews said that money is in the Water Department budget.

After some discussion, Councilman Matt Fields made a motion was to approve the river pump repairs but not to exceed the $10,000 cost.   The council also approved the replacement of the high-service water pump at the Water plant not to exceed a cost of $15-thousand.

The motions passed 5-1 with councilman Keith Turman voting no because of no firm pricing yet available.
