SC Couple Found Guilty in Georgia in Death of Townville Man

Sentencing is scheduled for Tuesday in Elbert County Superior Court for a South Carolina couple accused in the shooting death of an Townville, SC man last year.

Late Friday, a jury found 27-year old Jonathon Reid Cann of Iva and 23-year old Chelsea Brooke Clary of Anderson guilty of crossing state lines to conceal a death in the murder of 35-year old Charles Paul Mills.

Authorities in Georgia and South Carolina say Mills was shot in a mobile home park in Iva before his body was thrown into the trunk of his car and driven to Georgia where the vehicle was set on fire.

The pair face murder charges in South Carolina.

Mills’ charred remains were found Sunday, September 28th, 2014 in the trunk of his burning Kia Spectra near Highway 368 in the Montvideo Community near the South Carolina state line.

Another vehicle, which turned out to be owned by Clary’s mother, was also found on fire near Mills’ car.

When law enforcement officers arrived, a perimeter was set up and the search for the man they believed was responsible was launched.

A motorist and witness told authorities they saw the two vehicles on fire and stopped to offer help, but the two suspects pointed a gun at them and told them to leave.

About 2p that Sunday afternoon, authorities received information about a possible sighting of a male and female suspect.

That night, Cann and Clary were taken into custody at a house in Elberton and were later charged with Mills’ death.
