Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said his office received a look out for a gray van that was taken from Davis’ residence and that might be in the Hartwell Dam area.

“We all went down U.S. 29 towards the Dam,” Cleveland said. “Deputy Spears met the vehicle on the Cokesbury Highway.  He did not use his blue lights, he just stayed behind the vehicle and ran the tag.”

Cleveland said his officers stayed with the vehicle and called for back up as it travelled down the Elberton Highway.

“Chief Deputy Whitmire and myself went down the Elberton Highway and were in the Newberg area, Cleveland said. “We hit our blue lights and he (Spears) hit his blue lights and we arrested the couple without incident. Inside the van we found a knife. I don’t know if that was the murder weapon or not.”

Arrested were Christine Davis Black, 46 and John Muriel Black, Jr., 49 of Jefferson Drive, Westminster.

Cleveland said investigators from Oconee County and the GBI interviewed the couple. They will be returned to  Oconee County, SC to face murder charges there.  Cleveland said no charges will be filed in Hart County against the couple.
