Some Lavonia Water Customers Under Boil Water Advisory

A boil water advisory is in effect for Lavonia water customers in the Pleasant Hill road area due to a broken fire hydrant.

The fire hydrant has been fixed, but water customers in that area should continue to boil their water until further notice, according to Lavonia City Manager Gary Fesperman.

“We have to issue a boil water advisory for the areas of Pleasant Hill Road, Whispering Pines and Deer Run,” he said late Tuesday. “Customers in those areas may see a little discoloration in their water from sediment that got stirred up in the lines when we reactivated it.  There’s nothing wrong with the water, but we do recommend that you boil your water for at least two minutes before using it for cooking or for baby needs.”

Fesperman said anytime a water line is taken out of service, the State Environmental Protection Division requires the city issue a boil water advisory.

“As soon as the EPD gives us clearance to lift the boil water advisory, we will issue a statement with the radio station,” he said.

Fesperman said they expect to lift the advisory by later today.
