Space Still Available for Employers at Upcoming Job Fair

Space is still available for local businesses at this year’s eighth annual Career Expo and Job Fair on the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Technical College.

The Career Expo is coming up October 17 from noon until 3p.

Sponsored by the State Department of Labor’s Toccoa Career Center, manager Greg Pitts says it’s not too late for vendors to sign up.

“We do still have space available for employers,” Pitts said. “Of course we do have a good turnout for our Career Expo. This is our biggest event of the year. If anyone is interested in reserving space, they can contact Kathy Smith in our office and we will be happy to provide them with a registration form and provide them with a table and if they need an electrical outlets, we can help along those lines as well.”

Pitts said this is the biggest job fair event of the year for the Toccoa Career Center with anywhere from 50-70 employers turning out.

“We will have a variety of employers as we always do,” he said. “We’ll have employers from the manufacturing sector who are looking for production-type personnel. A number of our employment staffing companies will be there. We will have some professional positions available and there will be some job openings in the medical field as well.  There’s always a variety of positions and I think that’s why ours is well attended every year.”

Pitts says the Job Fair and Career Expo will also include job seeker workshops and the Veterans Administration mobile unit will be there to help veterans with their services.

And even though the Career Fair is still a couple of weeks away, Pitts says now is the time for job seekers to prepare.

“If you do not have a resume, at the Toccoa Career Center we have a certified resume writer,” said Pitts. “We have several other people who are capable of helping you produce a resume because these employers are going to want to see one. That has become critical now in applying for jobs. We can help you along those lines. If you need help maybe with your job interviewing skills, anything along those lines, we can help you, but do not wait until the last minute.”
