A Stephens County Board of Education member who was arrested last month for driving under the influence, has resigned.

Jeff Webb submitted his resignation late last week.

On Friday, Stephens County School Superintendent Bryan Dorsey released a letter of resignation submitted and signed by Webb.

In the letter, Webb states that in light of the recent circumstances and due to personal and health problems, he hereby tenders his resignation.

Webb goes on to say in the letter that he has appreciated the opportunity to serve with the other board of education members.

Last month, Webb was arrested and charged with DUI by the Toccoa Police.

According to the report from toccoa police, Webb was attempting to leave Stephens County Hospital in the early morning hours of April 22 when hospital staff kept him there, believing he was under the influence.

Police have indicated Webb had brought his mother to the hospital a couple of hours before that.

In the report, police state that an officer conducted a field sobriety evaluation and a breathalyzer test on Webb, who blew a .096, above the legal limit of .08

When asked about the incident, Webb said he wished to consult with an attorney before commenting on the specific allegations and charges.

He did say that the allegations and events should not reflect on any other board member.

Webb has represented District 2 on the Stephens County Board of Education.

He is the second school board member to resign this year.  Dr. Elizabeth Pinkerton resigned from the board back in January.

As it was with Pinkerton, Dorsey says that the board of education will be responsible for appointing someone to serve the remainder of Webb’s term on the board, which is set to run through the end of 2018.
