Three Franklin County HIgh Students Recieve Scholarships from the Lavonia Chamber

The Lavonia Chamber of Commerce honored three outstanding students at Franklin County High School Honors Night with the presentation of $500 college scholarships.
Abigail LeCroy received the Calvin P. Andrews Memorial Scholarship to further her education at Georgia Tech. The STAR student and class Valedictorian plans to major in chemical engineering in preparation for entering medical school. During her high school years she has participated in the band’s drumline and served as drum captain. She learned leadership skills as president of the Technology Student Association which competed in nationals, and she studied Arabic at the Federal Service Language Academy at the University of North Georgia. She has worked as a law firm intern and file clerk and volunteered with the Lavonia library Summer Reading Program. The daughter of Laura and Randall LeCroy, Abby teaches Children’s Church and leads classes in Vacation Bible School.

Lavonia Chamber of Commerce Scholarships were presented to Jasmine Corn and Rebecca Herring.
Jasmine has excelled throughout her school years, maintaining a 4.0 average and receiving the Georgia Certificate of Merit. She has been a Hugh O’Brian Leadership Conference Delegate, was a member of Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was co-captain of the Marching Pride Flagline. She intends to major in pharmacy at the University of Georgia and earn a doctorate. .

Rebecca Herring will major in Early Childhood Education at Young Harris College and minor in mathematics.She intends to earn a master’s degree in education and return to Franklin County to teach.
The daughter of Gary and Kathy Herring, she has been the 2014 Outstanding Spanish Student, is president of Beta Club and a member of the school’s concert and marching bands. She has mastered five musical instruments and was this year’s brass captain. Her hobbies are crocheting, reading and collecting books.
