Toccoa will move ahead with the re-surfacing of 25 city streets this Summer and Fall.

Monday, Toccoa City Commissioners unanimously approved a bid for a street re-surfacing project.

City commissioners selected the low bid from C.W. Matthews of Marietta on the recommendation of both staff and the city’s engineering firm on the project.

C.W. Matthews bid $942,665.44. The only other bid was from Blount Construction of Marietta in the amount of $1,148,865.14.

The bid from C.W. Matthews was below the estimate from the city’s engineering firm for the project, which was $984,633.07.

Toccoa City Manager Billy Morse said with the bid approved, work will start quickly.

“We will issue a notice to proceed within 10 days,” said Morse. “They will start work and will have 90 days from that to complete the work, so August, September, and October, the work would be ongoing or completed by that time.”

Morse said the city has both state funds from the Georgia DOT and SPLOST V money available to pay for the re-surfacing of the streets.

The list of streets to be re-surfaced includes Fern Valley Drive, Fern Valley Circle, Wesley Drive, Beaverbrook Circle, Foxdale Drive, Foxdale Circle, Foxdale Court, Malik Drive, Crestwood Drive, Andrews Street, Alexander Street South, Bell Street, Central Street, Cross Creek Drive, Diagonal Street, Frankie Fleming Street, Grove Street, Henderson Street, Highland Avenue, Oak Street, Short Street, Spring Street East, Tallulah Street South, Whitman Street East, and Whitman Street West.

City commissioners approved that list earlier this year.

Morse said the city came up with the list by grading all of the roads in the city from poor to excellent condition and putting as many of the poor condition roads on the list as possible.
