Two Arrested in Elbert County Drug Bust

In Elbert County, a Friday evening traffic stop lands two Elbert County residents in jail on possession of meth with intent charges.

Elbert County Sheriff Melvin Andrews says the stop occurred on Rock Branch Road when deputies clocked a vehicle going 70 mph in a 45 mph zone.

After the vehicle was stopped, Sheriff Andrews says the deputy received consent from the driver to search the vehicle and found what they say was 4.7 grams of methamphetamine.

Arrested was the vehicles driver, identified as 30-year-old Christopher Haynie and a passenger, who was identified as 24-year-old John Donald, both of a Turner Hill Road address.

Both are charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Drug Related Objects.  Haynie faces an additional charge of Speeding in Excess of Maximum Limits.

Both were transported to the Elbert County Detention Center after their arrests.  No word on if either has been granted or has posted bond.
