Veterans Job Fair This Morning in Toccoa

Just a reminder, veterans looking for work will want to take advantage of a job fair and career expo in Toccoa today.

The job fair takes place this morning from 9a to noon at the Mitchell Allen Meeting Room behind the Train Depot in Toccoa

Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Labor, staff members from the Labor Department’s Toccoa Career Center will be on-hand to provide employment-related services to job seekers.

“Our commitment to veterans makes it the number one priority at the Georgia Department of Labor to help veterans get good employment,” Said Labor Department Spokesman Sam Hall. “And also to help the employers find good, qualified veterans to hire.”

The expo will feature about 20 employers, educational institutions, and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers.

Among those expected to participate in the expo include: DeVry University, Fenner Dunlop, Field Service Engineering, Georgia Mountains Workforce Development Authority, Herzing University, Homesafe, Lee Arrendale State Prison, McDonald’s, Murphy-Hoffman Company, Portwatch, Ritz Instrument Transformers, Royston LLC, Tenneco, Vet Center, and Walgreen’s.

The employers will be hiring or discussing future employment opportunities, while other organizations will provide educational and other resources.

Hall said employers like to hire veterans because most have a strong work ethic.

“Veterans are excellent potential employees for any company because they come out of the military knowing how to take orders, how to fulfill a mission,” Hall said. “Most of all, they have a spirit of team work. So, veterans make excellent employees, they have good work ethics and they’re dedicated to fulfilling the mission of their employer.”

Applicants should bring resumes, be prepared to fill out company applications, and interview for available job openings.

You should also bring a driver’s license and dress for a job interview in order to improve your chances of getting hired.
