Hart and Franklin Counties See Increase in Unemployment Rate

The Georgia Department of Labor has announced that the unemployment rate in the Georgia Mountains region, which includes both Hart and Franklin Counties, was up to 4.8 percent in January, up four-tenths of a percentage point from 4.4 percent in December.


In January of 2016, the rate was 4.7 percent. Over the year numbers, however, have shown a good economic trend for the Georgia Mountains Region as claims were down by 412, or 12.6 percent, from 3,281 in January 2016.

The unemployment rate in the Northeast Georgia region, which includes Jackson, Madison and Elbert counties, also increased in January to 5.3 percent, up three-tenths of a percentage point from 5 percent in December of last year.
