Jackson County Set For Road Detour
Jackson County will see a road closure for up to 90 days starting Today for the replacement of a 79-year-old culvert.
Work will begin on Monday, July 7th, on State Route 11/US 129 and will cause a 14.7-mile detour, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The GDOT says the detour will allow construction to move faster, and cost less than if a temporary lane were built for traffic during the construction. Traffic will be routed from SR 11/US 129 in Jefferson to SR 82 to SR 211 and back to SR 11/US 129.
Currently the roadway is scheduled reopen by October 15.
This existing culvert was installed in 1938.
